International Peace Worker in Myanmar – Juli 2015

we are looking for an


International Peace Worker in Yangon / Myanmar



Field of work:

As International Peace Worker you will be supporting a local organisation in strengthening their work in the field of peace education with a focus on ethnic and religious discrimination.


  • Planning and implementation of the CPS project jointly with the local counterpart
  • Preparing and facilitating trainings/workshops, and advocacy initiatives on education, nonviolence and nonviolent communication – with the aim to overcome ethnic and religious discrimination
  • Facilitating processes regarding awareness-raising/capacity-building for nonviolence with a focus on the educational system and peace education
  • Engaging in public relations and advocacy activities as well as networking with other organisations as required by the partner organisation
  • Integrating into the partner organisations team and adjustment to the partner organisations’ working conditions, Developing strategies jointly with the partner organisation to better address the partner organisation’s organisational needs, as well as establishing a functional project management system
  • Ensuring a proper and adequate application of funds and regular communication with the CPS country coordinator and Kurve Wustrow in Germany
  • Developing ongoing conflict and security analysis related to the CPS work and close cooperation with other CPS workers in Myanmar
  • Where necessary public relation and networking activities in Germany



  • University or similar degree in peace and conflict studies, international relations, or another relevant field
  • Relevant training in conflict transformation or similar field
  • Work experience within NGOs, preferably in international and conflict context
  • Sound knowledge and experience in the field of peacebuilding and civil conflict transformation, experience in the field of peace education is a strong asset
  • Experience in trainings related to negotiation and facilitation skills
  • Familiar in dealing with different stakeholders from the grassroot level as well with government authorities
  • Advocacy, campaigning and media skills, development of respective strategy plans
  • Analytical and strategic thinking, as well as reporting and documentation skills
  • Willingness to work inside a youth organisation with values rooted in ‘Socially Engaged Buddhism’
  • Willingness to travel to remote (conflict) areas
  • Team player with intercultural competences, ability for self-reflection, high flexibility, motivation and adaptability to live and work in conditions with basic facilities
  • Knowledge of the context and work experience in Myanmar would be an asset
  • Professional command of English and motivation to learn Burmese
  • German language skills would be an asset



Contractual Conditions:

We offer a contract according to the German law for development aid workers (only for EU-citizens plus Switzerland) until December 2017. The contract including a preparation period in Germany would start approximately on 1st September 2015.
