Nonviolent social movements have the potential to contribute meaningfully to conflict transformation. They “play a critical role in mobilising public awareness and shifting power towards more equitable and just societies”. International actors can also play a role in this process by supporting grassroots initiatives to become more resilient and impactful. 

Our latest report "Walking the Line: Strengthening Nonviolent Social Movements as an Approach to Conflict Transformation" explores innovative pathways to combine the power of nonviolent action with the transformative aims of peacebuilding.

It examines how KURVE Wustrow, a German non-governmental organisation that emerged from the anti-nuclear social movement and funded by the German Civil Peace Service (ZFD), implements conflict transformation projects by strengthening nonviolent social movements.

During the event, the authors of the report will provide insights into key challenges, good practices, and outcomes of cooperating with social movements in Sudan, Sri Lanka, Myanmar, and Palestine/Israel. They will also share lessons learned and recommendations to further develop partnerships with social movement actors to transform conflicts.
