We are happy to announce that our CPS partners in Palestine Youth of Sumud have won this years’ "Front Line Defenders Award for Human Rights Defenders at Risk". (CPS - Civil Peace Service) On behalf of Youth of Sumud, Sami and Sameeha Hureini were chosen as winners for the Middle East & North Africa Region. Youth of Sumud work voluntarily to defend Palestinian rights, document human rights violations and raise awareness on the situation of Palestinians under Israeli occupation, despite the high level of risks and negative consequences associated with HRDs work. Living and working in the South Hebron Hills, an area under full Israeli military control, members of Youth of Sumud have been facing increased intimidation, threats and violence because of their non-violent activism. We are proud that Youth of Sumud received the Front Line Defenders Award for their outstanding and indispensable civic commitment and unwavering persistence for the promotion of human rights and the protection of the Palestinians.
